Educate yourself!

I was inspired to write this because I feel people need to be internally sound and honest with themselves. It’s so easy to conform to social media and news outlets for information, but I feel it’s worth the time to educate ourselves. In the past decade, Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other sites have been platforms for debates, arguments, and even education! What happened to the old school way, where if we didn’t know it, we researched it from credible sources, such as peer-reviewed articles, scholarly works, encyclopedias, and even teachers? We are relying on sensationalism for answers, our thoughts, and even our two cents and think that’s a relevant way to make a stand. It's still attractive to read a book, surf an academic website, or even speak with a scholar about information before we confidently make a comment or start a debate without supporting our opinions. I’m always up for a debate, but you better know I’ll always come prepared with my weapons: a textbook, an interview from a credible person, or even research the answer myself from a scholarly resource. I didn’t get this far by riding off what someone’s said on FaceBook nor do I feel the need to emulate another person’s reasoning because it seems to be the most logical answer or fear of not being popular or well-liked. “You best believe” I will not only research my topics, I will formulate my own opinions, and back it up with knowledge…credible, valid, and factual knowledge! It’s time that we “mature up” and educate ourselves! There’s no wrong in it!

No matter how old, how young, how educated (or not), it doesn’t hurt to pick up a book and research a topic and discuss it. I’m tired of ignorant and empty rants without sustenance! If you dislike something, say why, and back it up with some factual information! If you don’t like a topic I choose, or what I write in my blog, please let me know, and back it up with factual information! I encourage it! Let’s better ourselves to discuss what’s going on with our government, our economy, our national security measures, and our stance in the world as a global force. Let’s find ways to improve our society, instead of finding ways to ruin it. Let’s find solutions to help our leaders, instead of insulting them, and disrespecting them. Us, Americans, our first reaction is to condemn our leaders, but don’t know or have what it takes to be in their positions. Walk a mile in their shoes for one day, and I guarantee you the naysayers wouldn’t and couldn’t handle it! Let’s better ourselves to become a stronger nation. Open a book! Have a candid, educated conversation. Think before you speak and you’ll be surprise of the outcome! Educate yourself!
